This was drawn from a newspaper photo of my grandfather, Norwood Thomas. It was taken a few weeks ago, on the 70th anniversary of D-Day on the beaches of Normandy, France. My grandfather, who is still with us, was a member of the 101st Airborne and jumped that day, along with three more jumps during the duration of the war. He visited Normandy on the anniversary and was met by fans, adoring French and American people, and even the US president in a special ceremony, which he chose not to attend. He instead walked through the areas of France where he fought, looking at what they had become now. My grandfather is 92 this year, and has gone skydiving for the last three birthdays in order to relive those moments!
